Gypsy Recording was established in
2002, and has since grown to offer services including studio and on-location recording and mixing, full artist development, and virtual mixing of music from anywhere in the world via internet. Our goal, however, has stayed the same...
to provide our clients with the very best of services. We work
hard to offer a balanced mix of
professionalism along with a relaxed and comfortable work environment.
When asked how he got Gypsy Recording started,
Brandon Karp responded the following:
"I went to college and I was going
to be a doctor, but I got kicked out.... so I decided I needed to do
something that I was already good at, and went to school for audio.
Shortly after that, I was offered a full time job doing recording in
the real world, and I ended my college career. A few years
later I decided to go off and work as a freelance engineer, and
built my first remote recording rig, which I named Gypsy Recording.
Although I love recording live concerts, I wanted to move more
towards recording full project albums on-location, setting up a
studio in an artists home or anywhere else... and it was great.
At the same time, I had a mix room in my house where I would do all
of the mixing and post of the recordings I did on-location.
Eventually, artists that I was friendly with had started asking if
they could record at my house rather then bringing the studio to
them; I already had a room setup for recording and it was right next
to my living room which they would set up in. So, when I moved
into my new place, I decided to build a full studio there... a space
that was as comfortable for people to record in as a living room,
but with fully designed and acoustically treated rooms. And so
we built the entire ground level into a multi-room studio, from
scratch. Doubled, non-parallel walls, mid/high frequency
absorption walls, ceiling panels, double glass doors between rooms,
and of course areas to just relax in. And so now, not only am I able to offer remote/live recording anywhere in the world, or to work with clients within a studio-for-hire, I'm now also able to have my clients work in my 5th Street Studio."
