Gypsy Recording
is the home of engineer/producer, Brandon Karp. Brandon is a much sought
after member of the professional audio world, who over the past decade has accomplished many great achievements in the
world of recording.
Brandon lends his talents to projects both in
the studio and remote outside world. His work can be heard spanning all
genres of music, as well as on numerous Grammy winning/nominated and
multi-platinum projects!
A native New Yorker, Brandon was born
in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island. His love for music began at the age
of five when he began playing the drums, and still continues through today.
In high school, Brandon bought a Fostex four-track and was given a Shure
545 microphone. From that, he began recording himself and his friends in
his bedroom (mostly jams and Grateful Dead covers). He then moved into
bigger and better places...
After leaving his pre-med studies at the
University of Albany, he moved on to the Audio Engineering program at Five
Towns College. He quickly moved to the head of his class, working as a
Studio Assistant at the college.
After finishing his third semester at FTC, he was offered a job with
legendary Effanel Music in NYC. Just a few weeks later, he was out working on
major recordings, along side industry legends. Although he left Effanel in 2002 to
further pursue Gypsy Recording and freelance engineering, Brandon still got
brought back quite often to work with them on recordings... right up to the end.
Brandon's career has included work, at various levels, on many
large projects. Some of his highlights include, Tony Bennett's "Live From
San Francisco", Creed "Alcatraz Island", Santana "Live By Request", Alison Krauss & Union Station live album and
DVD, various Nsync, U2, David Bowie, and Our Lady Peace recordings,
numerous MTV and VH1 events, and "America: A Tribute To Heroes", which he
received honors for doing his part on this historic production, by the
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Primetime Emmy Awards. Brandon's
engineering credits include the recording for Bono's
MusiCares Ceremony (featuring No Doubt, Garbage, Bono, and countless others),
Target's Christmas commercials with Stevie Wonder and India Arie, Dan
Zanes & Friends "The Fine Friends Are Here" DVD and CD, Robin Hitchcock "I
Often Dream Of Trains" DVD, as well
as other credits with artists ranging from The Allman Brothers Band, to
Dave Holland, to Laurie Anderson...
